The Coptic Orthodox Church today issued a statement in which it expressed its concern over the Israeli bombing of Gaza. The statement read:
“The Coptic Orthodox Church expresses its grave concern and displeasure over the deteriorating state of events in the Arab region as a result of the vicious Israeli attack against the Palestinian Gaza Strip, which has been ongoing since last Wednesday 14th November.
“These attacks resulted in the loss of many lives, among them children, women, and old people; as well as grave financial losses. All this adds to the gravity of the situation, the ordeal of the occupied Palestinian people, and the enormity of the Israeli blockade of Gaza.”
The Coptic Orthodox Church offered its sincere condolences to the families of the deceased, and demanded that the violence against the Gaza strip should cease at once, to stop further bloodshed. The statement said the Coptic Church added its voice to all the official attempts exerted and civilian efforts extended to put an end to the struggle between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
“The Coptic Orthodox Church prays for peace to reign in the Arab region and the occupied Palestinian lands, asking God to give wisdom to all the conflicting parties to renounce violence and return to the negotiation table, in order to preserve the lives of peaceful civilians.”
The statement was signed by acting patriarch Anba Pachomeus.
