Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas visits Kerala, India


Kochi, October 29, 2008:  Patriarch of Antioch and the Supreme head of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch, His Holiness Ignatius Zakka I Iwas visited the Antiochian Syrian Orthodox Churches in Kerala, India from 17th to 29th of October 2008. During his 12-day visit, Ignatius Zakka I was attended various functions in Kerala including the conclusion of the golden jubilee of the priestly ordination of H.B. Baselios Thomas I, the regional Arch bishop-Catholicos of Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, Kerala Arch Diocese of Antiochian Syrian Orthodox Church on October 19 in Kochi.

 

Another main program of the Patriarch was the official announcement regarding the canonization of Maphryono Mor Baselios Shakralla (AD 1764, Kandanad), Mor Coorilos Yuyakkim, the Antiochian-Patriarchal delegate (AD 1874, Mulanthuruthy) and Mor Coorilos Paulose Kochuparamabil, the former Metropolitan and the Antiochian fractional leader of the Orthodox Church in India (AD 1917, Panampady).

 

The regional Jacobite Syrian Christian Association and its Episcopal Synod of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch also convened under the president-ship of His Holiness during this apostolic visit.

 

After the 12 day visit to the Jacobite Syrian Christian Church, Ignatius Zakka-I Iwas, Patriarch of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch, left for the Patriarchate in Damascus on 29th of October 2008 morning at 9.30 am from the Kochi International Airport in Nedumbasserry
