Patriarch Iwas to be laid to rest on Friday in Sednaya

Damascus, Mar 23, 2014 (SANA): Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant, Bishop Timotheus Mathew al-Khoury said that the body of late Patriarch Mar Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, will be laid to rest in Sednaya on Friday.

Al-Khoury said this will be carried out in accordance to the will of the late Petrarch, with prayers to be held on Friday at St. George Cathedral in Damascus at 2 PM, following which the Patriarch’s body will be transported to the Patriarchal burial ground in Mar Ephraim Monastery.

Patriarch Iwas passed away on Friday, March 21st, in a medical center in Germany.
