Awqaf minister of Syria offers condolences over death of Patriarch Iwas: “We have lost a great man”

Damascus, Mar 25, 2014(SANA): Delegated by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Minister of Awqaf (Religious Endowments) Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed offered condolences over the death of Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, who passed away on Friday.

Syria has lost a compassionate father who was a role model for all Syrians…We lost a great man at a time when we need them most, he said.

He taught Syrians human values, love and tolerance and embodied the Muslim-Christian fraternity, al-Sayyed pointed out.

The Syrians, Muslims and Christians alike, stand united in the face of extremism and terrorism which seek to undermine the steadfastness of the Syrian people, the minister said.
